Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park, White Springs, Florida

We couldn’t resist the opportunity to stop here again. Bob was hoping to restock his supply of Mayhaw jelly, but the park store was out. At the craft village, one of the shops was open, and we chatted with a woman who was weaving while browsing the shelves. The park had a large light display for Christmas, and most of the lights were still up (though not lit).

The park has an impressive carillon tower with 97 tubular bells ranging in length form 3 1/2 feet to 12 1/2 feet long and weighing 69 to 426 pounds. It plays tunes several times a day, in this case Christmas melodies. It can be easily heard throughout the park. The large photo shows a model of the wooden timber-frame structure holding the bells. The smaller photo shows one of the hammers used to strike the bells.

This audio file is a recording of the carillon playing White Christmas. It was recorded in the campground about 1/4 mile away so there is a fair amount of background noise.
