River View RV Park & Resort, Vidalia, Louisiana

On our way home last spring this area was under water. We asked about it at the office when checking in and were told the river crested at 57 feet in early July, more than THREE MONTHS after we went through. Check the video in this post to see what it was like.

Watching traffic on the river is one of the best features of this campground. Upon arrival, we spied a barge sitting in an eddy and climbed up onto the riverwalk to check it out. We found three 297 ft tank barges of benzene.

One of the other things that attracts us wherever we go in December is Christmas decorations. The influence of local flavor is a special draw. We walked up to the convention/visitor center and found ourselves in the middle of a nice drive-through display of dioramas, some animated, some not. Here’s our favorite:
